March Madness: It's Band Camp Time at Grossmont High School
Director Adam Bovie and drum majors Patricia Tan and Kathryn Herman will lead the Royal Blue Regiment at halftime shows and tournaments.
With 70-75 members—about 20 more than last year—the Royal Blue Regiment of Grossmont High School concluded its first week of Band Camp on Friday afternoon. The two-week tradition is led by second-year band director Adam Bovie, who puts the storied marching band through its paces on the football field in the morning and the band room in the afternoon.
This year’s field show—the halftime performance during football games and tournaments—includes music from Concrete Jungle, Harlem Nocturne and Urban. The band consists of members of Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Color Guard and Drumline—and also takes part in the Mount Carmel and Mother Goose parades. The color guard is 13 strong this year—about four times last year's size.
Band Camp culminates with a halftime peformance at the Foothillers’ first football game—the home opener Sept. 2 against Ramona High School.
