Limousine Ride on First Day of School Could Go to Four Foothillers

Grossmont Center is collecting new clothes and school supplies to help needy kids in Kroc area.

School has started for most, but that doesn’t mean every kiddo has enough to wear.

So Grossmont Center has partnered with the and a couple of San Diego radio stations to provide new clothes and school supplies to those in need.

As an added incentive, the “Rock Star Student” part of the program has a drawing to award a chauffeured limousine ride on the first day of school to a donating student and three friends.

Grossmont High students would be eligible, since they start school Sept. 6—the day after Labor Day.

The Kroc Center, just blocks west of La Mesa on University Avenue, will be giving items to children in 11 surrounding ZIP codes, says marketing director Maria Todaro.

“They’re going to be distributing the clothes, backpacks and schools supplies to the community center through their client base,” Todaro said of the Kroc Center’s Family Resource Center. “[Those are] people who have come to the Kroc Center who have demonstrated financial need that are within our service area.”

Items can be dropped off at the mall’s information booth before Sunday, Aug. 28. Free flash-drive bracelets will be given (while supplies last) to those who donate.
