Helix Takes Eastlake Frustration Out on Vista, Pummeling the Panthers 42-7

One week after falling to Division I school, the Scotties beat up on host Panthers.

While a long way from La Mesa, the Helix Highlanders made the Vista end zone their home Friday night. Scoring six touchdowns, the Scotties left behind last week’s bitter loss to Eastlake High School.

Helix senior running back Darrion Hancock scored three touchdowns—two of them in the first quarter—as the Scotties beat Vista 42-7 after leading 28-0 at halftime. Vista scored in the third quarter. Quarterback Brandon Lewis passed for 341 yards and three touchdowns, completing 27 of 35 passes in the rout.

Also scoring touchdowns for the Highlanders were Cameron Lee, Kacy Smith and Kendall Keys. Coach Troy Starr’s team evened its nonleague record to 1-1, and will host Cathedral Catholic High School at 7 p.m. Friday.
