Grossmont Defense Keeps Control of Game as the Foothillers Beat Helix

Robby Nesovic was Hillers' leading scorer with 15 points; Helix led by Titus Young's 14 points.

A strong defense kept Grossmont High in the lead thoughout the game as the Hillers beat Helix Charter High School 59-45 in a boys basketball contest amidst cheering on par with a title game. Cheering sections from the local rivals  loudly punctuated each basket as Helix hosted the competition.

For nearly the entire first period Friday night, the Hillers blanked the Scotties. But the game got tight later as Grossmont led 17-14 before sprinting in the final period to a 14-point lead. The score was 23-14 at halftime.

“We played a very good man-to-man defense,” said Grossmont Coach Frank Foggiano. “The defensive rebounding was excellent.”
