Grossmont Outgunned in Musket Game: Helix Charter High Prevails 42-0

Brandon Lewis completes 16-of-26 passes in first half for a 35-0 lead before spending second cheering Scotties from the sidelines.

Grossmont’s hopes for a Musket Game victory on the 60th anniversary of the first contest with Helix High School were shot down in the first quarter, when the Scotties took a 21-0 lead.  Michael Adkins reached the end zone for the first of his two TDs of the night at 9:23 left in the first quarter.

The visiting Highlanders pushed the score to 35-0 with 1:34 left in the first half on a Jimmy Pruit touchdown run, and handed the ball to the bench in the second half, when Helix added only one score—a Kacy Smith touchdown. Smith ended the night with 41 yards rushing.

Helix quarterback Brandon Lewis completed 16-for-26 passes for 238 yards in his 24 minutes of work, including three TD passes.  The county No. 1 Highlanders, led by coach Troy Starr, reached the 42-point level for the sixth time this season as their record rose to 6-1. They’ll travel to Valhalla next week, while the Foothillers, under coach Ron Murphy, saw their record fall to 4-2-1. They journey Friday to Granite Hills.

And the Musket prize?  It was left back home at Helix, in the library. The Scotties said they didn’t need to bring it.
