Grossmont Girls Claim First League Crown in Lacrosse, Await CIF Seed

Hillers hold off Monte Vista 11-7, look to their assignment in San Diego section playoffs.

Grossmont High School won its first-ever league championship in girls lacrosse Tuesday afternoon by beating visiting Monte Vista 11-7.  Kate Craig and Morgan McBride led the Hillers with three goals apiece, while single goals were scored by Alex Maclyman, Summer Willey, Erin Konacki, Teresa Lima and Sarah Edward. Seniors were honored after the game.

Monte Vista was paced by Monica Lopez and Kayla Myers, who scored three goals each. Nica McComb scored the remaining goal.  In the second quarter, Grossmont led by as much 8-3, but the Monarchs coached by Natalie Bustillo fought back and got as close as 10-7.

CIF playoff seedings will be announced Wednesday, said Grossmont coach John Neill.
