Foothillers Swamp the Scotties in League Opener of Girls Water Polo

With four goals, Savanah Phillips leads Grossmont over Helix Charter High School 14-4.

In their first league water polo match of the season, Grossmont High School beat Helix Charter High School 14-4 Wednesday evening. Savanah Phillips led the Foothillers with four goals, followed by Gabi Menegus with three and Alexa Potter and Megan Haar with two each. Rachel Recksiedler and Sarah Reuss each added a goal.

Grossmont coach Marcy Wilson said that with only three seniors, her team primarily is made up of sophomores. “They're getting to know each other,” Wilson said. “They are water polo students and achievers.”

Helix Sophomore Trisha Miller led the Scotties with two goals. Victoria Nauman and Shayla Gavin-Futas each scored once. The young Helix team has three seniors.

Despite being in Division I, Helix coach Lenelle Wylie hopes her team makes it to the CIF playoffs. Grossmont faces Steele Canyon at Monte Vista High next Wednesday, and Helix plays Granite Hills at Montgomery High on Friday.
