Pearl Harbor Survivor Presentation

The Casa de Oro Branch of San Diego County Library, 9805 Campo Rd #180, is hosting Remembering Pearl Harbor Veterans, an event in remembrance of Pearl Harbor veterans on Saturday, December 3 at 1 p.m. The event will include a presentation by Pearl Harbor survivor Stuart N. Hedley, an opportunity drawing to win an American Flag that flew over the White House, and refreshments courtesy of the Spring Valley Lions Club. The library will also be accepting donations of used eyeglasses and hearing aids.

Hedley joined the Navy at age 19 in 1940 as an Apprentice Seaman and was aboard the USS WEST VIRGINIA when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Hedley continued to serve until 1960 and then worked for the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District until 1981. From 1984 until 1996, he did infrared inspections of Naval Aircraft Carriers and MSC ships. Hedley has received more than fifteen awards for his service.

"We are honored to have Mr. Hedley tell his inspiring story to our library community as part of our Remembering Pearl Harbor Veterans program," said Branch Manager Amanda Heller. "This program is sure to inform, educate, inspire, and entertain customers of all ages."
