La Mesa Walk & Roll - International Walk to School Day

La Mesa, CA – Students from eight local schools are gearing up to celebrate International Walk to School Day along with children throughout the world.

La Mesa Dale Elementary and La Mesa Middle School, two of the eight participating La Mesa-Spring Valley schools, will host Mayor Madrid and other City officials on October 5th as they celebrate. The excitement begins at La Mesa Dale Elementary School at 7:30am. Students will be joined by Mayor Madrid, La Mesa Police Officers, and the Director of Public Works/City Engineer Gregory Humora and walk together around the school from Olive Avenue to Normal Avenue and up to the Parks Avenue entrance to join the La Mesa Dale’s Peace Square celebration where there will be prizes for participation. Also featured is La Mesa Dale’s first “Walking School Bus,” thanks to a few creative parents!

The International Walk to School Day activities continue as students from La Mesa Middle School meet at Helix Charter High School to receive a raffle ticket and march over to La Mesa Middle led by Helix High’s Scotty Five Spirit Group and Mascot. Mayor Madrid and students will be cheered on by Helix High Cheerleaders when they arrive on campus for their effort in promoting physical activity, a healthier environment, reduced traffic congestion and pollution near schools, and taking back our neighborhoods for people on foot and bicycle!
