Come listen to a by Patch columnist James Newland, resident historian of the La Mesa Historical Society.
Newland, who is a La Mesa Resident and the Society's vice president, will discuss La Mesa's birth and incorporation in 1912. Newland is the supervising historian, and a manager, with California State Parks as well as a City Centennial Committee member and author of Images of America: La Mesa.
His lecture will feature a detailed look at La Mesa Springs of 1911-1912, including the protagonists of the incorporation movement; the smaller, but organized and surprisingly influential opposition; and the local and regional trends and issues that pushed the community to vote for incorporation.
