Escondido Defeats Helix in Double-Overtime Thriller in CIF Hoops Playoff
Poor free-throw shooting and a spate of turnovers doom the Scotties in Division I playoff game.
Escondido High School upset host Helix Charter High School 76-67 in double overtime Wednesday night to advance to the second round of the CIF San Diego boys basketball playoffs.Â
The Cougar victory in Division I came thanks to superior ball handling and steals—and a poor Scottie performance at the free-throw line. Helix made only 4 of 9 shots.
Tenth-seeded Escondido and 7th-seeded Helix were tied at 65 after the first overtime, but the Cougars outscored the Scotties 11-2 in the final four minutes.
