The Grossmont-Mt. Helix Association (GMIA), a La Mesa-based, non-profit public benefit corporation representing more than 7,000 single-family residences and 20,000 East County residents, will host its annual meeting from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, at the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College, 12122 Cuyamaca College Drive West in El Cajon. A dinner from Phil’s BBQ restaurant will be served. Cost to attend is $10 per person for GMIA members and $20 per person for non-members. Among the speakers will be county Supervisor Dianne Jacob. Founded in 1938 as a homeowners group and advocacy group, GMIA offers input to governmental agencies on transportation, traffic control, zoning, planning and land use issues, and works to ensure that the quality and character of the community is preserved and enhanced. GMIA also organizes neighborhood and community events. Members reside within geographic boundaries, including east of Bancroft Drive, north of State Route 94 and west of State Route 54 and Jamacha Road. Membership dues are $18 annually per household.
