Set in Concrete: Part of Allison Avenue Closing for 3 Nights

Quarter-mile stretch between University Avenue and Spring Street will be shut to traffic for streetscape work.

Tuesday afternoon, Ignacio Carapia and Raul Pasqual had a job a kid would love—playing in fresh concrete. Down on their protected hands and knees, they smoothed a sidewalk in front of City Hall as part of the streetscape project that has turned Allison Avenue into an obstacle course. The city is closing the quarter-mile stretch between University Avenue and the trolley tracks at Spring Street three nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Wednesday night for more construction. City Manager Dave Witt apologized for the inconvenience at Tuesday night's council meeting, but vowed it'll be worth it.
