Regulators Fine Alvarado Hospital After Woman's Death

Alvarado Hospital near La Mesa was recently fined $50,000 by the California Department of Public Health for failure to follow proper procedure when a woman fell out of her bed and died, according to NBC San Diego.

The state agency reported that a nurse turned off a bed alarm for a high fall-risk patient who later fell out of bed, hit her head and suffered a bleed into her brain tissue stemming from the fall. The patient died the next day, the news station said.

Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego was also fined $100,000 for removing the wrong kidney from a man possibly suffering from cancer in one of his kidneys.
