Who did the better job portraying national status? President Obama or Gov. Mitch Daniels?

In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama tried to strike an optimistic tone about the recovery from recession and the nation’s future. “Anyone who says that America is in decline or that our influence has waned doesn’t know what they’re talking about,” he said.

In the GOP response, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said: “This year, it falls to Republicans to level with our fellow citizens about [economic] reality: if we fail to act to grow the private sector and save the safety net, nothing else will matter much.”
