Update: Obama Departs San Diego After La Jolla Fundraiser

Air Force One took off from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar amid a presidential tour of the West Coast. His last stop was an evening appearance in Los Angeles.

President Barack Obama made a campaign stop in San Diego County on Monday, his first stop in the region for his 2012 re-election bid.

Obama arrived at MCAS Miramar aboard Air Force One at approximately 1:40 p.m. and was greeted by a group that included White House employees and their families who had arrived earlier, Marines and some local elected officials. He then headed to a fundraiser in La Jolla.

The stop in San Diego is one of seven he is taking on the West Coast with a goal of raising $4 million. He visited Seattle on Sunday.

After the La Jolla fundraiser, Obama departed at 4:15 p.m. aboard Air Force One for an evening appearance in Los Angeles.

In his previous campaign, Obama came to San Diego for a fundraiser at the Birch Aquarium in February 2007, spoke at the California Democratic Convention in April 2007 and to the National Council of La Raza annual conference in July 2008.

According to Jess Durfee, chairman of the San Diego County Democratic Party, Obama captured 54 percent of the voters in San Diego County in 2008. John McCain had 44 percent.
