Missing $6,800? Check San Diego County's Unclaimed Monies List

Think the government owes you money? You have until September to collect about $300,000 in unclaimed money being held by San Diego County.

The funds are held in almost 1,300 accounts for those who have conducted business with the county or have not claimed property tax refunds, Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said. 

He said the lowest amount available is $10.01 and the highest is $9,109.54 to Valley Center Investment LLC.

Another example, which leads to a Spring Valley address, is 8940 Jamacha LLC, which is owed $6,800, according to county records.

“Many people move or change addresses and fail to update their contact information with the county," McAllister said. “Our job then is to try to find those entitled to refunds. Our announcement ... is the culmination of many months of working to return the funds to their rightful owners.”

Lists of those who are owed money are on the county's web site under the Unclaimed Monies link.

The website includes a claim form. The deadline to file a claim is Sept. 23.

State law allows countywide monies that remain unclaimed for more than three years, and property tax refunds that are unclaimed for more than four years, to be turned over to the county's General Fund.
