Mayor Art Madrid Represents 18 Localities on League of California Cities Board

Madrid: "By being on the League of California Cities board of directors I am able to represent my own city and also help influence policies that affect all California cities."

La Mesa Mayor Art Madrid continued seventeen years on the board of the League of California Cities as the group held its third board meeting of the year last week in San Diego. Officers and directors met to discuss state and federal legislation and policy affecting California cities.

The League of California Cities is a statewide association founded in 1898 to advocate on behalf of California’s cities at the state and federal levels and provide education, training and best practices for city officials.

Mayor Madrid has served on the League’s board for the past seventeen years representing all eighteen cities in San Diego County.

“By being on the League of California Cities board of directors I am able to represent my own city and also help influence policies that affect all California cities. The League is the leading voice of California’s hometowns and our board engages in significant policy discussion on a quarterly basis on a wide variety of issues including public safety, land use, economic development, environmental quality, transportation and infrastructure. I am proud to be a member of this body,” said Madrid.

In the course of the two-day meeting, the League’s officers and directors reviewed progress toward achieving the organization’s strategic goals and received an update on the 2013 legislative session, which ends September 13. They adopted legislative positions from various League policy committees on land use, public safety, transportation and public works. The board also reviewed and acted upon recommendations from the organization’s CEQA Task Force and the Immigration Reform Task Force.
