Helix Water District Inaugurates New Tank
The new tank is rectangular and constructed from reinforced concrete. It provides 800,000 gallons of treated water storage.
The Helix Water District on Friday inaugurated use of its new Homelands tank in El Cajon.
Nestled into a hillside off Greenfield Drive in El Cajon, the new facility is 54 feet wide, 98 feet long, and 26 feet tall. It replaces a 60-foot diameter, 18-foot tall tank built in 1948.
The new tank is rectangular and constructed from reinforced concrete. It provides 800,000 gallons of treated water storage and improves fire service for the surrounding community.

The original tank held 300,000 gallons. It was demolished in May 2012, and work on the new tank completed this summer.
The district serves the cities of La Mesa, El Cajon and Lemon Grove as well as surrounding unincorporated areas.
