Rep. Susan Davis told supporters Tuesday that the Tea Party-led government shutdown earlier this month especially hurt women and children.
"Tea Party Republicans hit women with low blows," said the Democrat who represents La Mesa and Lemon Grove in an email message to campaign supporters.
government shutdown hit women and children hard. 8.9 million women and
children under five saw their healthcare and nutrition funding
suspended, putting their families at risk. Suspension of Head Start
preschool programs, and Violence Against Women Act funding have left
women and children dangerously out in the cold.
"Taking away women's access to care was so important to these Republicans, that they were willing to shut down the government and risk doing irreparable damage to the economy to get it."
The message to supporters was sent by the Susan Davis for Congress campaign organization. She faces re-election in 2014.
