City Hall Puts Focus on Televised Bulletin Board, Online Newsletter

City Manager's Office looking to hire someone to produce new slide show, more frequent newsletter on La Mesa events, information.

La Mesa is looking to spruce up its community bulletin board. Not one on a Village street corner or near City Hall, but on television.

At the same time, City Hall wants a new improved—and more frequently published—newsletter. Not one sent by mail, but posted online.

“The city of La Mesa provides programming on its government access channel shown on Cox Cable Channel 24 within city limits and on AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 within San Diego County,” notes a “request for proposal professional services.” (See attached.)

As part of the Channel 24/29 service, the city offers the Community Bulletin Board—“a slideshow presentation aired for several hours throughout the week and offers information about the city's departments, services and programs.”

At the same time—and part of a $25,000 project—the city aims to redesign its online Focus newsletter, now published quarterly, into a two-page document that can be published more frequently.

“The newsletter is published on the city’s website to meet the growing demand for computerized access to up-to-date information about activities and noteworthy projects occurring in the community,” the city said.

“The redesigned newsletter must be a high quality publication that incorporates the Community Bulletin Board’s brand and design focused on communicating the issues, events and services of the La Mesa community in a timely and accurate manner.”

The city website has a survey asking residents “what you like or don't like about the current issue” of the online-only newsletter. (It once was mailed to city residents.)

As part of the redesign, the city wants a new name for the newsletter, which will be posted either monthly or every other month—“to be determined by affordability.”

Deadline for submission of proposal packets is 5 p.m. Oct. 3. Finalists will be interviewed by a selection committee, tentatively meeting Oct. 12. The contract begins Nov. 1.
