Official sponsors of the centennial can use logo for a minimum donation of $500, city license says.

La Mesa residents and former community members are being invited to record their memories of living here as part of centennial celebrations.

“Share Your Story” can include tales about growing up  in La Mesa, “or hearing your grandparents talk about our town or perhaps … why you decided to raise a family here,” said the city.

Participants can use this online form to record their information.

“Selected stories will be featured on the centennial website and as part of the centennial promotional and media campaign,” the city says.

La Mesa became a city on Feb. 16, 1912, and the centennial website includes an application packet (attached) for use of the official logo—which comes in four versions. Official sponsors make a donation of at least $500 for the use of a logo.

The city also lists four centennial goals:

  • To provide a structure to celebrate the City’s history and culture through exhibits, educational venues, institutional presentations and community events.
  • To create opportunities to participate and to celebrate the Centennial for service, educational, civic, faith-based groups, business and tourist organizations.
  • To foster civic pride and economic prosperity through Centennial promotional activities recognizing historical achievements of businesses.
  • To develop a Centennial project that would leave a legacy for future generations.

La Mesa Patch has a topic page archiving stories about the centennial and activities of the nearly three-dozen member committee, led by Mayor Art Madrid. The page also can be accessed from the News dropdown menu on any page.
