Barbecue Fundraiser Aims to Fuel Democrats in Local Races
The La Mesa-Foothills Democratic Club seeks volunteers for East County Big Blue Round-Up.
Grill master Jess Durfee is looking for a few good Democrats.
Whether you like your burgers grilled or of the garden variety, the La Mesa-Foothills Democratic Club will have both and more during its East County Big Blue Round-Up event Sunday, Aug. 28. And Durfee needs help with the barbecue, the club says.
The club is looking for volunteers to assist throughout the picnic event, and sponsors to help support it. The event aims to raise the funds needed to open a Democratic campaign office in La Mesa, something officials say will help them elect local Democrats while supporting President Obama’s re-election.

“Even though La Mesa is a blue city, we still are under-represented on the City Council, Spring Valley [and] La Mesa school board, and most regulatory boards that directly affect us,” says Linda Armacost, club president.
The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the Sweetwater Regional Park Summit Site Pavilion.
