Assembly Approves Bill to Expedite Licenses for Spouses of Service Members

The bill decreases the wait time for spouses to earn their professional licenses in California.

The State Assembly approved a bill Monday that expedites professional licenses for spouses of service members.

The bill—which was authored by Assemblyman Marty Block (D-San Diego) and was approved by a 78-0 vote—would expedite the licensure process for military spouses with a current, valid license in their career field from another jurisdiction.

“The spouses and partners of our military families make great sacrifices—relocating frequently and interrupting their own career paths and earning power,” stated Block in a press release. “Helping spouses re-establish their careers aids our military families financially and has the added benefit of putting talented and licensed individuals to work in our state.”

Assembly Bill 1904 now goes to Gov. Jerry Brown for a signature.
