Juvenile Joins 2 Others in Robbing Pedestrian on Spring Street

Police say 22-year-old victim lost cell phone in attack that saw him punched in the face.

La Mesa police are looking for two young men and a juvenile about 13 or 14 who robbed and punched a 22-year-old man walking Sunday night on Spring Street, a stretch with Sunny Donuts—itself a robbery target Feb. 3.

About 6:45 p.m., the victim was walking southbound in the 4200 block of Spring St. when he noticed he was being followed by three subjects, police said.

“A short time later, one of the subjects came up from behind and punched the victim twice in the face,” said a news release.

“The same subject then demanded the victim’s cell phone.  The victim dropped his cell phone onto the ground where one of the other suspects picked it up.  All three suspects then fled southbound on Spring Street.”

The victim had redness to his face but no other injuries.  The assailants were described as:

  • Black male adult 18-20 years old, 6-1 to 6-2, unknown weight, wearing a gray sweatshirt.  (Man who hit the victim.)
  • Black male adult, 18-20 years old, unknown height and weight, wearing gray “hoodie.” (Man who picked up victim’s cell phone.)
  • Black male juvenile, 13 to 14 years old, unknown height and weight, wearing an unknown color “beanie” hat.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
