Woman Knocked Down Near Target in Money Bag-Snatching at the Mall

Thief made getaway in Nissan Xterra by a heavyset black woman, police say.

La Mesa police are looking for a young man who knocked down a 49-year-old woman early Thursday afternoon near the Target store at Grossmont Center and took a bag containing an undisclosed amount of money.

About 1:15 p.m., said a news release, “a man knocked a woman down and took her deposit bag [with checks and cash]. … The suspect was described as a black male, 20 years old, muscular build wearing a white do rag, a white T-shirt and jeans.”

The thief was driven from the scene in a white Nissan Xterra by a heavyset black female with long hair, police said.

The victim suffered several abrasions and was taken to nearby Sharp Grossmont Hospital for evaluation.  The loss was the deposit bag and its contents.
