Woman Killed in Early Morning Crash

The Ford Explorer she was driving went off state Route 94 onto Bancroft Drive.

A 27-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning after the SUV she was driving on state Route 94 went down an embankment onto Bancroft Drive and into a building, according to the Highway Patrol. She was identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as Elisa Maria Osuna of Chula Vista.

Just after 3:20 a.m., Osuna was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer eastbound at an unknown rate of speed when the SUV veered off state Route 94, went down a hill and continued onto the off-ramp to Bancroft Drive, said a CHP dispatcher. The SUV entered the intersection, hit a raised curb edge that overturned the vehicle and collided with a chain-link fence and a building.

The SUV landed on its roof with Osuna strapped to her seat by the safety belt, according to the CHP dispatcher. It was determined at the scene that her injuries were fatal and the Medical Examiner’s Office has notified the next of kin.
