Woman Fights Off Teens Trying to Take Cell Phone

One girl is arrested following the attempted robbery at Grossmont Center, and one gets away.

A woman fought off two teenage girls as they tried to steal her cell phone at  Saturday evening, according to La Mesa police. A 14-year-old El Cajon girl was arrested at the nearby trolley station and police are searching for a second suspect that has not been identified, according to a police report.

The 33-year-old woman was talking on her cell phone near the just after 8:30 p.m. when the two teens approached her from behind and one of them grabbed the phone and tried to take it, police said. The woman resisted and fought with the two suspects, according to police. She was struck in the face, resulting in slight swelling on her left cheek.

Police said the two suspects fled toward the Grossmont Trolley Station without the victim’s cell phone. The girl arrested at the station was charged with attempted robbery and released to a parent. The second suspect was described by police as a black female, 15 years old, 130 pounds with a medium build, with long black hair in a pony tail. She was wearing a light blue T-shirt and denim shorts, and was carrying a gold purse.
