2 Juveniles Arrested on Suspicion of Starting Fire in Rancho San Diego

The wildland fire was reported at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the 10800 block of Calle Verde.

San Miguel Fire District made the following announcement on June 27, 2012:

An intentionally set vegetation fire threatened several units at the Woodbridge Apartments, as well as six vehicles parked along the canyon rim. The wildland fire was reported at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26 in the 10800 block of Calle Verde.

The suspects allegedly used a cigarette lighter to start the blaze in a ravine behind the apartment complex. The fire charred about one-eighth acre, several trees and briefly threatened vehicles in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Numerous citizens stepped up, including an off-duty US Forest Service firefighter to provide suspect descriptions.

investigators located and detained the suspects based on the witness descriptions. Ultimately, two 15-year old juveniles were identified by witnesses as the persons who started the fire.

They were placed under arrest, each suspect faces one count of Arson to Forest Lands. No injuries were reported. The case has been turned over to juvenile authorities for disposition.
