Two Arrested for Weekend Crime Spree in Spring Valley

Two men were behind bars Monday for allegedly commandeering a motorist's car over the weekend and using it as their getaway vehicle in an East County armed robbery a short time later.

An undercover officer spotted the stolen Chevrolet Monte Carlo parked in the 7200 block of Pearson Avenue in La Mesa shortly after midnight Saturday, Sgt. Angela DeSarro said.

The sedan had been carjacked in San Diego the previous evening by a pair of thieves who then drove it to Spring Valley, where they proceeded to commit an armed holdup, according to DeSarro.

The plainclothes officer parked his unmarked cruiser a short distance from the Monte Carlo and put it under surveillance. A short time later, he saw two men matching the description of the carjacker-robbers approaching and called for backup, the sergeant said.

Police confronted the suspects – later identified as Gerry Glenn Bullard Jr., 22, and 26-year-old Keith Ashley Davis – with guns drawn and ordered them to the ground. The alleged robbers refused to cooperate, prompting an officer to shock one of them with an electric stun gun, DeSarro said.

Both suspects then complied and were taken into custody. One was carrying an airsoft pellet gun, the sergeant said.

In addition to the carjacking and armed holdup, at least one of the suspects is believed to have carried out a robbery at a 7-Eleven store on Palm Avenue in La Mesa on Oct. 19, DeSarro said.

Bullard and Davis were being held in county jail on $100,000 bail each. Their arraignments are scheduled for Wednesday.
