Three Arrested in Warrant Sweeps in Spring Valley

Three men were arrested in Spring Valley and National City today in connection with an apparent gang-related shooting that left two men wounded last fall.

Manuel Cadena, 30, Oswaldo Mariscal, 22, and Paul Mariscal, 29, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder, according to Chula Vista police.

They are accused in the shooting took place around 1:40 a.m. Oct. 7 on Kearny Street, near Second Avenue in Chula Vista. Police said the victims were two men who were shot while inside a vehicle, then drove themselves to an area hospital for treatment. Both survived.

Cadena and the Mariscals were arrested during simultaneous raids carried out about 5:45 a.m. by the Chula Vista Police Department's Crimes of Violence Unit.

Police said the raids took place at two residences -- one in the 3200 block of Olive Street in National City and one in the 920 block of Harness Drive in Spring Valley.

Cadena was arrested at the Harness Drive residence, while the Mariscals were arrested on Olive Street, police Capt. Gary Wedge said.

SWAT members and the Sheriff's Department's Special Enforcement Detail assisted in the operation.
