Early morning robber took Padres cap, sunglasses and cash from female clerk.

A Conoco Phillips 76 gas station was robbed at knifepoint early Saturday by a man with distinctive plug earrings and tattoos, City News Service reported.

La Mesa police say the man stole cash, a San Diego Padres baseball cap and sunglasses.

The man walked into the station at 6085 Lake Murray Blvd. just before 3:30 a.m., picked out a Padres hat and a pair of sunglasses from a display rack and approached the cashier, according to the La Mesa Police Department.

While the cashier was ringing up the items, the man pulled out a 4-inch pocket knife with a green handle and threatened to stab her if she did not give him the money in the cash register, police said.

The cashier gave the man all the money in her register and he ran away east on El Paso Street, taking the Padres hat and sunglasses with him.   The man was described as white, in his 30s, 6 feet tall, with a medium build, shaved head and clean shaven face.
