State Officials Propose Placing Sexually Violent Predator in Northeast San Diego County

Officials first proposed placing Terry Stone, 63, in Spring Valley.

State hospital officials on Wednesday proposed placing sexually violent predator Terry Stone in a single-story home in Borrego Springs, in the far reaches of northeast San Diego County.

Stone, 63, a diagnosed pedophile, was convicted on three separate occasions for committing lewd and lascivious acts against five different victims between the ages of 6 and 11.

In 1994, he was sentenced to 19 years in prison for his crimes.

Prior to his release date, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office filed a petition to commit Stone as a sexually violent predator. As a result, instead of being released, Stone was committed to a state hospital in 2003.

Last year, Stone sought his conditional release from the hospital, and in December, a judge ruled that Stone could be safely released back into the community for continued treatment and supervision.

A court hearing is scheduled May 2 for the public to comment on Stone's proposed placement in Borrego Springs.

Public comment will be accepted until April 11 and also at the hearing next month.
