Spring Valley Killing Early Friday Spurs Manhunt by Sheriff’s Department

Victim was Brian Keith Hammett of El Cajon, according to Medical Examiner's Office.

A 29-year-old man was killed in Spring Valley early Friday and deputies were on the lookout for a group of males in a light full-sized passenger van, authorities said.

Deputies received a call about a group of suspicious people hanging out in a driveway in the 8600 block of Troy Street about 12:30 a.m., according to
the sheriff's homicide Lt. Larry Nesbit.

When they arrived, they found the victim lying in a driveway with multiple wounds to his upper body, he said. Paramedics took him to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he died at 1:54 a.m.

The county coroner's office identified the man as Brian Keith Hammett of El Cajon.

The coroner did not immediately release the cause of death. The victim may have been stabbed, sheriff's Lt. Mike Munsey said.
