Six Arrested in DUI Saturation Patrol on St. Patrick’s Day

Four arrests were on drunken-driving charges, and one was for an outstanding warrant. Sixth was an out-of-state fugitive, police say.

The luck of the Irish didn’t smile on six motorists here Thursday—all arrested during a La Mesa Police Department “DUI saturation patrol” on St. Patrick’s Day.

La Mesa police were on the lookout for drunken drivers for eight hours, and stopped 17 vehicles.

“Seven of the drivers were evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs,” said a news release Friday.

Of the drivers who were checked,  four were arrested on driving-under-the-influence charges. As well, one driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant charge, and another was arrested as being a wanted felony suspect from another state.

Seven citations were issued for other traffic violations, police said.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said La Mesa police.
