Missing Schizophrenic Man Found in Downtown SD, Returned to Spring Valley Facility

Dwayne Drake, 47, walked away from Volunteers of America on Troy Street in Spring Valley on Sunday night.

Update - 4:59 p.m. Authorities have located a man missing from a Spring Valley community care center since Sunday night.

Dwayne Drake, 47, was found by the San Diego Police Department at a park in downtown San Diego on Wednesday, just hours after the Sheriff's Department asked the public for help in locating the man.

Drake, who is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, walked away from the Volunteers of America facility on Troy Street in Spring Valley on Sunday.

According to Detective Michael Moore of the Lemon Grove Sheriff's station, Drake was evaluated by the SDPD's Psychiatric Emergency Response Team when we was located, and then returned to Volunteers of America at about 1:40 p.m.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department announced that it is seeking help from the public to help locate a man who walked away from a Spring Valley community care center on Sunday.

Dwayne Drake, 47, is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, who also suffers from bipolar disorder. He was last seen at Volunteers of America, at 8627 Troy St. Sheriff's Department officials said Drake had been at that facility for two years and has never been missing for this long.

Drake is a transient by nature, and his whereabouts are unknown. He is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 130 pounds, with black hair. He was last seen wearing a black  jacket and brown sweatpants.

He is believed to be traveling on foot or using public transportation. Anyone with information about Drake's whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Department's Lemon Grove substation at 619-337-2000.
