La Mesa Police Investigate Delayed Report of Rape

Incident was in October 2010 but not reported until Wednesday, police say. The attack allegedly occurred in north La Mesa or the San Carlos area.

La Mesa police are investigating a local woman’s allegation of being raped in October 2010. The woman didn’t report the incident until Wednesday.

The woman, in her mid-40s, doesn’t know where the sexual assault supposedly occurred—just somewhere in north La Mesa, or possibly the San Carlos area of San Diego, police Lt. Dan Willis said Friday.

Willis said the woman provided no description of the alleged attacker—“not race, nothing,” Willis said.

According to the Police Department’s “calls for service” report, La Mesa police met the woman at her apartment at 5639 Jackson Dr. a little before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

“The incident allegedly occurred while the victim went into the parking area of an apartment complex [elsewhere in the area] to go to the bathroom,” Willis said via e-mail.  “No injuries or weapons were reported.”

This is the third reported rape in north La Mesa in three weeks.

Others involved teenage girls—one in the early hours of Feb. 1 at Northmont Park and another Jan. 15 at La Mesita Park near Parkway Middle School.

Willis said those incidents are still under investigation.
