Possible Suicide Attempt Averted at Severin Overpass of Interstate 8

Man, 22, was taken to Sharp Grossmont Hospital for observation.

Authorities say a 22-year-old man on a freeway overpass in La Mesa was talked down from attempted suicide late Monday or early Tuesday.

La Mesa police investigated a possible jumper at the Severin Drive overpass of westbound Interstate 8, said police Lt. David Bond.

The white male, he said, was taken to the Sharp Grossmont Hospital psychiatric ward under Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code, allowing an officer to involuntarily confine someone who is a danger to himself.
