Police Investigating Reported Park Rape of Teen Girl, the Second in Recent Weeks

Previous report of rape came Jan. 28—which was 13 days after girl said she was assaulted at another local park.

La Mesa police are investigating the reported rape of a 16-year-old girl at Northmont Park last week—the second such report of a teen sex assault in two weeks.

In the latest case, "the alleged offense occurred at Northmont Park during the late night/early morning hours of Jan 31./Feb. 1," police Lt. Dan Willis said Sunday.

The incident was reported by a third party last Tuesday, he said.

"The victim was reportedly intoxicated during the night and had no memory of any sexual assault," Willis said.  "There are no known suspects.  The investigation is continuing to confirm whether or not a sexual assault occurred and then, if so, who was responsible."

On Jan. 28, police received a report of a rape Jan. 15 at La Mesita Park, involving a 15-year-old girl. The attacker wasn't known by the victim, Willis said, and police have no suspects in the nighttime incident.
