Police Investigate First Homicide in La Mesa Since 2006

The shooting reportedly happened near the Marie Callender's restaurant.

A 19-year-old San Diego man is dead following a shooting that reportedly occurred near the 6900 block of Alvarado Road in La Mesa, near the border with San Diego, according to the La Mesa Police Department.

La Mesa police went to the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center on Zion Road in San Diego Saturday morning at 2:21 a.m., responding to a call regarding the victim that was deceased at the hospital, according to police. The name of the black male that died is being withheld at this time.

Police officers from La Mesa and San Diego found shell casings in the rear lot of the restaurant at 6950 Alvarado Rd. The restaurant was closed at the time. Police said that the circumstances of the shooting are unknown.
