Freeway Shooting Victim Dies; La Mesa Police Seek Clues in Sunday Attack

Xusha Brown Junior of El Cajon has died, according to authorities.

One of the two men wounded in a weekend vehicle-to- vehicle shooting on Interstate 8 in La Mesa later died in a hospital, authorities said Monday.

Both men were apparently fired upon by the occupants of another vehicle in the freeway's eastbound lanes near the state Route 125 overpass early Sunday, said La Mesa police Lt. Matt Nicholass.

The California Highway Patrol received calls about 3:40 a.m. about a vehicle on its side and a person lying in the roadway. Sharp Grossmont Hospital security officers called La Mesa police a few minutes later to report two men suffering from gunshot wounds had showed up in the emergency room, according to Nicholass.
