Next Thief to Hit Fashion Kiss Boutique Will Have a Date With the Jailer

Owner Michella Dresselhuys gets a crash course in criminal defense.

They say you always learn from your mistakes, and the rule is no exception for owner Michella Dresselhuys.

After a recent theft of several T-shirts hanging just outside her Date Avenue boutique, she turned every other hanger around to make it impossible for someone to easily grab things and run.

“That was a really good idea,” Dresselhuys said of a suggestion she got from someone who’d read about the incident. “Because if you see the pictures, he pushed the hangers together and then picked them up.”

But nothing quite compares to the lesson learned when Franchesca the mannequin was stolen in December. Bianca was quickly brought in as a replacement—complete with some bells and whistles.

“We put a GPS in the mannequin so if she does get stolen we can track her down,” said Dresselhuys. “She’s also locked up so no one can take her.”

Dresselhuys said Officer Tim Purdy took an incident report when it occurred Friday, June 10, and the following Wednesday, June 15, she filed a crime report.

According to Dresselhuys, the police said catching the culprit would prove difficult given the cap and sunglasses covering his face in the security footage.

“Some people think he looks white; I think he looks Hispanic and the cops thought he looked black or Hispanic,” she said. “I was just shocked that it was a man taking ladies’ clothing—especially that he did it right in front of the store. We need to pay more attention.”
