Muggers at Spring Street Trolley Punch Man and Take Phone

Incident happened about 10 p.m. Thursday, and assailants were last seen running towards the intersection of Palm Avenue and Echo Court.

A trolley rider was punched in the head and robbed of his cell phone late Thursday night at the Spring Street Trolley Station, authorities said.

The victim complained of pain to the side of his head, but did not require medical attention, police said. 

According to a news release, the La Mesa Police Department at 10:17 p.m. received a report of a robbery at the Spring Street Trolley Station at 4250 Spring St.

“The 24-year-old male victim had just exited the trolley and was walking down the stairs from the trolley platform,” said the release.  “The victim was busy dialing a number on his cellular phone when he was approached by two black males walking up the stairs towards him.”

One of the assailants punch the man on the side of his head and took the victim’s phone from the victim’s hand, police said.

“No words were exchanged before or after the robbery,” police said.  “The suspects were last seen running towards the intersection of Palm Avenue and Echo Court.”

One assailant was described as a black male, 20-25 years, 5 feet 9, 160 pounds and wearing a black T-shirt.  The second was described as a black male, 25-30 years, 6 feet, 180 pounds with a muscular build.
