Marijuana Stolen During Armed Robbery on Spring Street

Two suspects, one armed with a handgun, fled on foot and evaded arrest after a robbery in the 4200 block of Spring Street.

A man was taken to a local hospital with a head wound Tuesday afternoon after he was robbed at gunpoint near an apartment complex in the 4200 block of Spring Street, according to Lt. Matt Nicholass of the La Mesa Police Department. The incident was reported shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

A police investigation just started but it does not appear that the victim and assailants were total strangers, he said.

“The loss was a cell phone and medical marijuana so we don’t know any other circumstances as far as did they set up a delivery for the guy to come there or if they knew he had medical marijuana or what,” he said.

One of the two men was armed with a handgun, the victim told police. Nicholass declined to state the amount of medical marijuana stolen during the robbery.

After the medical marijuana and a cell phone were stolen the two assailants fled on foot. La Mesa PD searched with the assistance of a helicopter but assailants evaded arrest. The two were last seen near the Echo Drive and Echo Court intersection.

The first robbery suspect is described as a black male, mid 20s, 5'6", wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt with horizontal white stripes across the front. Subject was last seen with a skateboard and may be armed with a dark colored Beretta handgun.

The second robbery suspect is described as a black male, mid 20s, 5'11", thin build, dark hooded sweatshirt, dark colored tank top and dark colored pants and was last seen carrying a skateboard.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the La Mesa Police Department at 619-667-1400. Anonymous tipsters can call CrimeStoppers at 888-580-TIPS.
