Man Who Perished In Deadly Spring Valley Apartment Fire ID'd

Authorities released the name Tuesday of an ex-Navy man killed in a fire that gutted his Spring Valley apartment, a day after he allegedly threatened to burn down the large complex where he lived.

Firefighters extinguishing the early morning blaze in the 3500 block of Sweetwater Springs Boulevard found the former serviceman's body in his bathroom.

The previous day, Cross had made a comment about torching the complex, a neighbor woman told reporters. It was unclear what might have motivated the purported threat.

The blaze forced the evacuation of about 100 residents and sent four of them to a hospital with minor ailments, including smoke inhalation.
