Man Cuffed After La Mesa Stabbing Tells Police: ‘This Is Not America’

A man was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the torso during a street fight, it was reported Monday.

"This is not America. This is not America," a young man is shown telling police Sunday night, complaining about being videotaped as he is handcuffed and led away on La Mesa Boulevard west of Spring Street.

The unidentified man in the attached video apparently was one of four arrested by La Mesa police in the wake of a stabbing.

The victim was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the torso during a street fight, it was reported Monday.

According to La Mesa police, the 29-year-old male victim was walking with two friends westbound in the 8200 block of La Mesa Boulevard at about 8:30 Sunday.

Words were exchanged between the victim’s group and a group of five male suspects they encountered on the sidewalk.  A fist fight broke out between both groups.

Police said that during the fight, one of the suspects armed himself with a pocket knife and stabbed the victim two times in the upper torso. The suspects fled on foot and the victim continued walking with his friends to the 8100 block of La Mesa Boulevard, where they called for help. 

Responding officers located four suspects who were positively identified by a witness. The knife used in the attack was found in the possession of the stabbing suspect.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.  His wounds are not life threatening. La Mesa police Sgt. Bret Richards told Patch that the victim does live in La Mesa.

The suspects have been identified as:

  • Joshua Douglas Black, 19-year-old transient.
  • Anthony Michael Irving, 21-year-old transient.
  • Jorge Rico Molina, 20-year-old transient.
  • Arin Richard Lamourex, 20, from La Mesa.

All four suspects were booked into San Diego County Jail on one charge of assault with a deadly weapon (non-firearm).

Bail was set at $30,000 for each and all four are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, March 27.
