Man Robs Teen Girl of Cell Phone at La Mesa Trolley Station

Police described the man as black and 40-45 years old, with a "salt and pepper" mustache. He wore a gray hoodie, black baseball cap and blue jeans.

La Mesa police were on the lookout Tuesday for a man in his 40s who snatched a cell phone away from a 16-year-old girl at a trolley station.

The teen was robbed at the trolley station at 4250 Spring St. about 6:45 p.m. Monday, according to a La Mesa police statement.

The man walked up to the girl and first reached for her purse, which was on her shoulder, police said. In an attempt to break the man's grasp on her purse, she began hitting the man with her cell phone, she told police.

The man then grabbed the phone and ran away on Spring Street, police said. The girl was not injured.
