Man Killed By Falling Tree Branch on Date Avenue

The man was on a cherry picker with a co-worker when a branch dropped and killed him in the 4400 block of Date Avenue, police said. Cal/OSHA will investigate the fatality co-workers said was a fatality.

A man trimming  a tree in La Mesa early Tuesday was fatally injured when a tree fell on him, police said.

The emergency at 4450 Date Avenue was reported at 8:06 a.m., according to La Mesa police.

The victim died at the scene. His co-workers witnessed the accident and said a eucalyptus tree branch hit him on the head and they tried to revive the man, NBC San Diego reported.

The fatality will be investigated by the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health, or Cal/OSHA, as is routine in cases of serious industrial or workplace accidents.
