Homicide detectives searched Monday for a man who fatally stabbed another man inside a residence in an unincorporated area near La Mesa over the weekend, authorities said.

They found numerous people inside the residence, including the victim, who had an apparent stab wound to his upper body, the lieutenant said in a statement. Paramedics rushed him to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m.

The perpetrator fled the residence prior to the arrival of deputies, Nesbit said, adding that authorities are working to determine his identity.

The county coroner's office will release the victim's name once positive identification is made and next of kin are notified.
