Man Dies After Being Shot in Face in Johnson Drive Incident

The man was discovered late Friday. No arrests had been made in the shooting, police said.

A 23-year-old man who was shot in the face in La Mesa died in a hospital early Saturday, according to police and the county Medical Examiner’s Office. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers were called to the 9100 block of Johnson Drive about 9:45 p.m. Friday on a report of a vehicle crash.

Instead, officers found the fatally wounded victim lying on the ground nearby, with a place of injury listed as the 4800 block of Myrtle Lane. He died at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.

Witnesses in the area told police they had heard a gunshot, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, according to police and the Medical Examiner's Office. His name was not immediately released.

No arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, police said.
